How long?
Shipping times can vary, and it's worth remembering that depending on the final destination, shipping times can be between 8 and 12 weeks, which is much slower than air freight.
Once we book your shipment on board, you will receive an email with shipping details.
The information will include the name of the ship, the approximate date of arrival at the port of destination, and the contact information of the shipping line agent.
This agent will be your first contact to retrieve the document and start customs clearance.
Once the ship leaves its UK port, we will also send you a copy of the "bill of lading" by email, which is the actual transport document.
In most destinations, this copy will be sufficient to provide to local customs officials (and other required documents such as stock or passports) to obtain your freight charges.
However, some countries still insist on bills of lading rather than duplicates. In this case, we will send the original by Courier or mail to your preferred address in the UK or destination.
How is the freight calculated?
Unlike air freight, it is the volume of your goods that determines the cost. Sea freight is charged "per cubic metre", so we always need to know the size of the goods before we can tell the final cost.
Although we can ship a shipment consisting of several separate packages, we always recommend palletizing them for greater safety.
This means that we will take your packages to our warehouse and build them on a sturdy wooden pallet base, then wrap and tie them together to build a single large unit.
After the tray is built, we will measure its size to determine how many cubic meters you end up with, thus summarizing the cost.
While it is perfectly acceptable to use your own boxes, suitcases, etc., when we make pallets, they inevitably leave space between them.
Since you have to pay for all the space you use, you can try to use packaging that is stacked together in a more compact way, with as little space as possible.
To help you do this, Tudor has a variety of cartons that are specially manufactured and can be placed on our shipping pallets in the most cost-effective manner as long as you follow the following guidelines.
Eight cartons on pallet 50s (each 45x4 x50cms) = 1 m3.
If they are more suited to your needs, you can use other Tudor boxes instead of the 50s. For example, two cartons 25 occupy the same space as one carton 50. These cartons are very suitable for heavier items, such as books and documents.
The goal is to ensure that when the tray is built, it resembles a large cube or block with flat top sides. If you have a single item protruding from the top of the tray, you need to pay for all the wasted space around it.
We charge £20 per pallet.
What can't be sent by sea?
There are very strict rules about what you can and cannot send by sea. These are mainly divided into the following three categories.
Dangerous goods
Many items that are not harmful to individuals are considered "dangerous" when transported by sea.
If these items are not declared in the shipper's inventory, it is illegal to send them to your package.
If you do send "dangerous goods", they must be packed and handled professionally. It is more expensive to send dangerous goods than ordinary goods.
Valuable goods
We don't accept valuable goods. This includes cash, traveler's checks, stamp collections, deeds, tickets, jewelry, watches or similar items.
Garbage or scrap
Scrap metal, paper or old tyres are not acceptable.
What documents are required for shipping?
We require detailed shipper inventory for each shipment. This can be done online or in person when our driver collects your package.
